The Puffery of Guilt Mongers

 

20% of the children in the US are hungry.  Boy that statement will catch ones attention.  1 in 5 children suffer from hunger is the implication. 

When I first saw that I was angry.  Initial thoughts were, why the hell is that happening.  With all the government programs available, no one in this country should go hungry.  If a child is going hungry, some one needs to have a conversation with some parents.  I was a little put out and began to watch closely and see if I could notice thing to that effect in children in passing.

Then it dawned on me what they were talking about, people on food stamps.   Latest statistic is; there are 48 million people in the US on food stamps.  Using this, the group putting out the PSA, states that one in five children are going hungry because their parents are on food stamps.  What a stretch.  Here a country is being generous by providing tax funds for these families to have something to eat and a group is bending the spectrum to fit an agenda of shamefulness. 

This an example of how a stats can be distorted and have half truths added to generate shame in the hopes people will provide more to their treasury.  Shame is used by many to generate donations to their cause.  When on looks at these organizations, roughly 80% of the money raised goes to the administration of the group and the rest goes somewhere. 

then look at that figure, 48 million people on food stamps.  For a country that is pretty embarrassing to have that large of a percentage on government dole.  So I ask the question of the government, why have you failed these people that you have to give them a hand out.  Living on hand outs does not produce pride.

As a country is this something to be proud of?  Like it or not, it is a part of our legacy that the government has manufactured for us. 

Many will say, it is real easy to get food stamps, others say it is the illegals.  No matter, it is 48 million people that owe their existence to the government of the United States, because the country can not provide gainful jobs for them. 

Welcome to the new world of government slavery.  Freedom and independence leave when one has to rely on the dole to live. 

One in five children hungry……. hardly.  Because they are considered in poverty, they are considered hungry.  What an ugly label to put on someone. 

The message implies that the parent is incompetent.  Talk about a shameful label. 

White House Dictator…. a wanna be

There has been all types of discussion about the shutdown of government.  Yes it is a political show but there is also something bigger, individual freedom is at stake and so many miss that.
Freedoms are lost by laws passed and that includes taxes.  When the taxpayer is working to support a government that returns nothing a gaffe rolls out.  The population is hooked or they lash back and things get ugly.
The Healthcare act carries so many new taxes, the regulators could get to the point of confiscating all of ones income for taxes.  Very little about the taxing latitude of the regulators has been discussed.  When the bureaucracy has the ability to tax without congressional approval, there is danger.  look at what the bureaucrats did in the last election, what do you think they really want.
Right now if the Healthcare act is not stopped and the debt ceiling is not held, the populace will be at the vagaries of the government.  The executive branch will control the country and no longer will the halls of congress have any impact. 
Look at all of the executive orders Obama has been issuing and there have not been any uproar about it until this shutdown. 
Ugly as it sounds, if Obama wins, one just as well start getting used to living under a single ruling empower and congress just as well go home.  The Healthcare act gives so much power to the executive branch and along with the Patriot Act, the President has extensive powers with no congressional check. 
Like it or not, if the Republicans cave into the President, the country has been lost and the change Obama wanted will be locked in, Marxism. 
Yes we’ve been bellyaching at the politicians for the shutdown, but there is a bigger issue then political gain.  Look at how the different government agents have been treating the general population.  Throwing people out, locking people out, arresting people, and it is almost a police state.  That is scary how these people are acting on the White House orders.
Understand why the constitution has been so ferociously attacked the present ruling democrats.  It about people control, 
The Democrats want to destroy the Republicans so bad, they will destroy the US in the process.  So hope the Republicans will stand their ground, for me and for you. 
Forget about politics, look at what is really at stake….

Choices….. How Politicians Take ….. Freedom From Us

 

Freedom is a funny thing and pretty difficult to understand.  Yet it is fundamental to a free society to understand what the responsibilities of the members are.  No matter how different one thinks, I am not to impose my will to make another think like I do.  It is their choice to think in their fashion.   

Having choices is one of the key underpins of freedom.  As I lose choices I lose freedom.  The first Amendment, “Freedom of Speech,” is one of freedoms of choice. 

I should be able to stand on the corner and shout my lungs hoarse and not have any body try to stop.  In variably some one will give me grief and tell me to shut up, that is their choice also.  Now if my speech is causing some one harm, then there should be consequences for my behavior and nothing about abridging my free speech.  Consequences should  be about stopping an inappropriate behavior not stopping the speech for under other circumstances it may not cause any harm.

Walking into a crowed place and yelling fire is an exercise of my free speech but is people panic and trample others then my free speech has caused harm.  For the harm caused, there should be consequences and it had nothing to do with free speech. 

Basically under this assumption I can be as big of an idiot as I want to be, just be willing the accept what happens afterwards.  Freedom has not been restricted but my own.  No others should lose freedoms because of my actions.

Yet a politician, in particular a control freak, will see the damage I caused to others and propose a law restricting how others speak because of how I behaved.  If the law is passed, many lose their freedom because of how I acted.  So the laws increase in numbers and lost freedoms increase in numbers.

Because some one did not fasten their seat belt and they are injured in a vehicle accident, the government steps in and passes a law, stating all seat belts are to be fastened. 

My freedom of choice has been lost.  Well it for your safety they will say.  No its about you restricting my freedom of choice, you being the politician.

The biggest political restriction of choice was a Constitutional Amendment, Prohibition.  Because a group people did not like alcohol, they got the a law passed saying no one could consume alcoholic beverages.  They took their will and imposed it on the general population. 

This was one of the largest behavior change laws ever passed.  Look at all the small laws passed restriction ones choices.  What kind of electricity to buy, what kind of equipment to buy for our car or appliances. 

The most restrictive law politicians pass is tax laws.  They tell one that a certain amount has to be dent to government.  One loses an amount of income to taxes, their choices on what to buy have been reduced.  Their freedom of choices has become limited.

List what other choices you lose because of a law that was passed.  Look at merchandise one can buy, bug sprays, types of materials and then drugs….. a big question.  Soon the government owns the  store and tells one what they can buy, well not really for there is only one choice on the shelf.

The government is controlling what goes in the market place and as such, controlling the population. 

Our choices and or loss there of revolves around the first amendment.  If one is restricted in what they can say, everything else downstream tumbles and freedom of choices crumbles.

What choice do you want to lose next?  So many are like jellyfish, spineless.  Got to stand up and be counted or be the sheep and led to slaughter house.  For what is sheared is mine, not theirs.

Letter Congress

 

Dear Congressman

The Republicans have taken a beating in the media. Luckily most of us understand that the media distorts the truth to fit their agenda. With a grain of salt I consume the media. They do not represent the reality of life, yet so many people believe what they spew out. Sitting in the House of Representatives, you are in the majority, you control the purse strings and the President does not like that. He will beat up on the Republicans in any way he can, for it has worked in the past.

I hope you and your colleges will develop a little stronger backbone and begin to stand up to his bullying. For no matter how things go over the next couple of months, the Republicans will be demonized. In the major media you and your colleges will be vilified. With that in mind, I hope you and others will stand up for what is good in this country, some fiscal responsibility. For if one does not live within their means, there is usually failure and everything the President has tried to do, has not helped the country climb out of the recession/depression. His administration has been one failure after another. These things need to be pointed out. Even under Bush and other administrations, economic stimulus plans did not work.

So I hope you and your fellow Republicans will withstand the hateful onslaught from the President and the media. It will happen. Luckily there are bloggers out there that are fairly neutral and do a good job of blogging.

Suggestion: The House pass a resolution, that all executive orders will be brought before Congress for proper legislation within 90days, if not the executive order will expire in 120 days. The country does not need legislation by FIAT. There is a time executive orders are appropriate but they also need the approval of congress or they should become null and void after a certain time. If executive orders are not challenged in some manner the door for dictators is opened.

There needs to be some kind of sunset on laws and if they are good, congress can act on them again in the future.

I would also like to see every gun control law have an amendment for media control. Like the President said in Chicago, paraphrasing, “It is an attitude problem on how we deal with our problems.”

Media control: Any and all violence in shows, programs, videos of electronic medium shall be forbidden. Any program with shootings, physical violence or mental violence shall be prohibited. The media can not cover violent crimes of any type, muggings, home invasions, rape, shootings, domestic violence etc. As one reads through the stories about the mass shooters, one sees that the people got many of their ideas from stories in the media, shows, programs, videos…. Etc. Therefore to curb violence it has to be curbed in the media.

According to the White House, it was a video that caused the Benghazi riot and other riots in the Middle East. So to protect our citizen’s there has to be some kind of media violence control.

Tongue in Cheek. If we are willing to trample on parts of our Constitution, what other parts are we willing to trample on? For if the Second Amendment is beat up and impinged on, the First will not be far behind.

The Control of Laws

 

So many people are up in arms over gun control.  But is it really about controlling guns.  Think again, Laws do not control inanimate objects.  Laws control the people that use these objects.

Most universal example in the laws governing speed of vehicles.  Do speeding laws keep cars from going to fast or slow.  No the laws are designed to keep the vehicle operator within certain boundaries.  The laws are about people control.

Do these laws prevent cars from driving to fast?  No, The car has no idea of what to slow or fast is.  The law is aimed at the driver, to control the driver’s behavior.  The law tells the driver if he violates the law there will be consequences.  Does the law prevent the driver from going to fast?  Even if the consequences are loss of operators license, do the vehicles operate within the law.

If a person does not want to obey the law, they will use excuses to justify their behavior of violating laws.

So how effective are laws in preventing certain behaviors? 

Look at driving.  How many are in jail for vehicular manslaughter.  Most have had previous convections of driving to fast, driving while impaired and operating without a driver’s license.

Based on that I would say that the laws to control vehicle operation have not been real successful.  Just drive down the roadway, watch the erratic behavior of some drivers.  Yet there are laws to prevent that behavior.

Most laws that are passed are failures.  Think you could get a lawmaker to admit that?

 

So what prevents certain behavior in people.  Does the removal of inanimate objects stop certain behaviors?  From time immemorial man has violated other man in some form or other.  Why is it that all people do not violate others.  They can drive a car, have no problems and operate it with courtesy. 

It is an inner motivation for caring for others.  It is not controlled by laws, it is an internal compass that has evolved over their growth in life.  Many were tutored in Christian values that arise out of the Ten Commandments.

There is nothing that says they have to obey these rules, it has become their choice to follow these rules.

Ex 20:13 “You shall not murder. z 
Ex 20:14 “You shall not commit adultery. a 
Ex 20:15 “You shall not steal. b 
Ex 20:16 “You shall not give false testimony c  against your neighbor. d 
Ex 20:17 “You shall not covet e  your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

These are from the book of Exodus, (NIV).

God knew his creation would make mistakes and he provided consequences for those mistakes.  His rules were not meant to prevent a certain behavior.  Rather provide a guideline on how to live with others.

Look at the last commandment, I starts, “You Shall Not covet.”  What does covet mean?

Does it mean the government can take you property, through taxes, consequences or by law if they do not like how you behave?

Now look at of the laws that have been passed by this country that are designed to control you behavior?  Have any of them prevented you from behaving in a certain manner?  What has prevented you from behaving in certain ways?

Laws are the most oppressive form of government available to mankind. 

God gave man 10 commandments, then later added a few rules, which became known as Mosaic Law.  Later the Jews started what was called the Torah.    Look how oppressive that became to the Hebrews.  And did that really stop the Hebrews from acting in their chosen manners.

As laws are passed, your freedoms are lost.  Your choices are eliminated.  Even taxes limit your freedoms.  When you pay taxes, what choices do you have?  You have only one choice, give your money to the government.

Laws no no boundaries, they apply to all equally.  Whether you are right or left, the law applies the same.  Many laws are like abandoned buildings, not much use any more but they are there t control people.  The 20th Amendment is the best example of people control.  Look what happened?  What gun control laws would of prevented the speakeasy era of the 1920’s.

I would like to see a 100% prevention rider on laws that it would prevent people from acting crazy.  If lawmakers want a control law, give me a 100% guarantee.

Nature or Marx….?

There is a time to reflect back and look at things from the past.  Ralph Waldo Emerson was considered a brilliant philosopher of his time, Mid 1800’s.  In the 60’s a lots of the hippies adopted him for their mantra.  Emerson wanted to live a quiet life in the woods.  His contemporary, Henry Thoreau was of like mind.  The hippies wanted to live in communes and share their toils being one happy family.  Don’t believe any of those communes lasted very long, for a variety of reasons.  But look at what Emerson had to say.

From this transfer of the world into the consciousness, this beholding of all things in the mind, follow easily his whole ethics. It is simpler to be self-dependent. The height, the deity of man is, to be self-sustained, to need no gift, no foreign force. Society is good when it does not violate me; but best when it is likest to solitude. Everything real is self-existent. Everything divine shares the self-existence of Deity. All that you call the world is the shadow of that substance which you are, the perpetual creation of the powers of thought, of those that are dependent and of those that are independent of your will. Do not cumber yourself with fruitless pains to mend and remedy remote effects; let the soul be erect, and all things will go well. You think me the child of my circumstances: I make my circumstance. Let any thought or motive of mine be different from that they are, the difference will transform my condition and economy. I -- this thought which is called I, -- is the mould into which the world is poured like melted wax. The mould is invisible, but the world betrays the shape of the mould. You call it the power of circumstance, but it is the power of me. Am I in harmony with myself? my position will seem to you just and commanding. To be self dependent, does not mean to be dependent of government yet this is how the socialists of the 60’s have corrupted their ideals.  What’s interesting is lots of these people accepted Marx’s teaching and wanted the ideal world he espoused.  Marx and Emerson are at other ends of the spectrum.  Emerson talks about being at one with nature.  This has a wide appeal to those who want to be natural, IE the hippies.  Today many of these people are some of the government bureaucrats and lawmakers wanting to tell people how to live.

 

The Transcendentalist adopts the whole connection of spiritual doctrine. He believes in miracle, in the perpetual openness of the human mind to new influx of light and power; he believes in inspiration, and in ecstasy. He wishes that the spiritual principle should be suffered to demonstrate itself to the end, in all possible applications to the state of man, without the admission of anything unspiritual; that is, anything positive, dogmatic, personal. Thus, the spiritual measure of inspiration is the depth of the thought, and never, who said it? And so he resists all attempts to palm other rules and measures on the spirit than its own.

 

Emerson states that one should resist imposing rules on others.  That one should be allowed to live within their own rules as given by the spirit.  Not many people walk this way.  So many have notions on how others should live, both right and left wing philosophies, and for to the government to impose their beliefs on others.  The biggest imposition of others onto others is morality.  The 20^th amendment is a good example of imposing ones views onto others.  Wasn’t very successful, in fact it created an era of lawlessness.  Oh this imposition came from the right, the holy temperance people.

You will see by this sketch that there is no such thing as a Transcendental "party;" that there is no pure Transcendentalist; that we know of none but prophets and heralds of such a philosophy; that all who by strong bias of nature have leaned to the spiritual side in doctrine, have stopped short of their goal. We have had many harbingers and forerunners; but of a purely spiritual life, history has afforded no example. I mean, we have yet no man who has leaned entirely on his character, and eaten angels' food; who, trusting to his sentiments, found life made of miracles; who, working for universal aims, found himself fed, he knew not how; clothed, sheltered, and weaponed, he knew not how, and yet it was done by his own hands. Only in the instinct of the lower animals, we find the suggestion of the methods of it, and something higher than our understanding. The squirrel hoards nuts, and the bee gathers honey, without knowing what they do, and they are thus provided for without selfishness or disgrace.

 

Emerson is fascinating in that he espouses just the opposite of how the left wants to live.  Yet it was the generation of the 60’s lefties that proclaimed Emerson as being the person to live by.

 

Society also has its duties in reference to this class, and must behold them with what charity it can. Possibly some benefit may yet accrue from them to the state. In our Mechanics' Fair, there must be not only bridges, ploughs, carpenters' planes, and baking troughs, but also some few finer instruments, -- raingauges, thermometers, and telescopes; and in society, besides farmers, sailors, and weavers, there must be a few persons of purer fire kept specially as gauges and meters of character; persons of a fine, detecting instinct, who betray the smallest accumulations of wit and feeling in the bystander. Perhaps too there might be room for the exciters and monitors; collectors of the heavenly spark with power to convey the electricity to others. Or, as the storm-tossed vessel at sea speaks the frigate or `line packet' to learn its longitude, so it may not be without its advantage that we should now and then encounter rare and gifted men, to compare the points of our spiritual compass, and verify our bearings from superior chronometers.

 

Emerson says be a participant in society, contribute.  He does not espouse about being a leech.  He truly expected people to work for their livelihood and there should be a variety of doors for people to enter into for a productive society.

The other thing to look at is his reference to a higher power and spirituality.  Something Marx wants to destroy.  For in Marx it is the Federal Government that is the higher power not man’s spirituality.  One of the first thing Marxist’s do is to ban churches.

Bills…. Grocery and Taxes

 

Next few months going to be interesting.  Politicians will be spewing deep do do all over and spending money galore.  to  tell us how to spend out money they are spending more money…. For what?

Then there are other things going on the politicians have no control over, the weather.

The drought is going to have a major impact on our lives and the politicos' will think they have the power to change things.  Weather is driven by hot air that is not from our nations capitol.

Living in farm and ranch country the weather is very important as is the markets.  Both are closely watched and the most complaints are about the weather then the politicos' garbage.

Lots of the corn crop around here  is withering and drying up into nothing.  Moisture in the ground for winter wheat crops is minuscule.  this problem stretches across the land, right through the heart of the grain belt.

There are pockets that have moisture and there is irrigation water. These two factors are going to make some farmers very rich.  It will also take a bigger chunk out of our paychecks.

 

The price if corn is headed out of the roof and wheat is following and that will pressure other crop prices to climb.  Domestic prices may climb enough to slow down exports.  Then it becomes a world wide problem.

Grocery prices have climbed steadily these past 4-5 years and are now about double over those years.  Things will push the prices into the stratosphere.  One will have to take out a loan just to buy food.

One interesting thing I read was about the requirement of ethanol.  That is being lifted and or allowed to float.  The mandate of ethanol for fuel is being floated.  I find that interesting.  Maybe the bureaucrats have felt the grocery bill in their pocket. 

Now one of the other things we are facing is tax hikes.  A choice… pay more taxes or buy food?  Will it get to that point?  Lots of discretionary spending will change.  Those out of work will even have it rougher.

Some of these problems come from politicians meddling in social lifestyles, social engineering.  Laws that dictate a certain behavior are a type of engineering, quite often is under the guise of safety or health.  They have become known as mandates.  What do they really do….. they take one’s freedoms of choice away.

As more and more laws are passed, more and more freedoms are lost.

This farmer will soon have enough money to buy some new tractors to add to his collection.  Farming is no longer a tough life.  It has become very lucrative, plus the government sends them a nice check occasionally.  Farmers have been getting a type of welfare for decades called farm subsidy and price supports.

I run into farmers here and there that would like to discontinue lots of the government programs for farmers.  They feel they could make more money in an open market. 

Ranchers have no government support programs unless they raise a crop of some kind, like hay or feed grain.   They roll along and make a good living ranching and the meat market varies very little.  Now that will change for most beef goes to feed lots before they go to the slaughter house. 

Cattle feed prices are going up also as the grain prices go up.  The drought has also pushed the hay market up in the areas where pastures have dried up.

It is a very complex situation but also simple….. prices are going up.

Damm People

 

Yep, that’s what I said…… dam damm dam people.   Someone goes on a shooting spree and kills some people and out of the wood work crawl the anti gun people.

Laws do not change behavior, they provide consequences.  Even the consequences do not stop behavior.

For centuries people have been killing people and all kinds of laws have been passed and people still kill other people. 

We live in a world full of evil people and this will not change.  So why do the anti-gun people think if they act like god’s and pass laws against guns the killing will stop.  It is one of the most stupid assumptions. 

On to their god box they jump, telling people they will be safer if guns are outlawed.  What a myth.

 

It is very simple…… The Constitution says the citizens of the United States have the right to bear arms.  There are no restrictions in the Second Amendment.  Yet lawmakers have compromised on  this amendment to shut up the cry babies.  None of these gun laws have stopped the killings.

Because of these compromises the Constitution is slowly eroding into oblivion.  When are a few people gonna stand up and tell the cry baby liberals……. NO…… emphatic…… NO.

Hey… got me two cents.

Big Bills of Medicine

 

Friend has been battling kidney stones this past year and it is not over yet.  I asked him what the bill has been so far.  He said over 400K.  I almost fell down.

Some doctors are going to have nice vacation villas and nice boats to cruise in. 

What puzzled me, after I sat down, why so expensive?  The machines for testing, the hospital stays or is there and large group of hands out wanting a share of the pie.

Yet I can see why those who are not insured would go moaning to the government.  Yet my friends insurance is government, Medicare.

Personally I feel that is part of the reason things are so expensive.  Most government agencies just pass costs on through and expect the taxpayers to cough the money up.  They seldom questions high costs.

Stop and think,a nice income is 40k a year.  400,000 would support 10 people.  My friend is a small industry but for only a few.

Or make it 50K a year, how many does that support.

Money has a way of multiplying and so often the average joe plods along.

 

4 Trillion dollars in debt we go.  How much money is that?  How many wages could be paid with that at what income level.

The root of all evil……… money, so the saying goes. 

The way the politicians toss money figures around I don’t believe there is any root on money any more.  Greenbacks slide right through my fingers into in the government’s coffers and I get a tad for a bottle of curds.

How did the IRS come into existence and why do we fear them so much?

Looking for Cheese

 

I post on a couple of other forums plus facebook.  One of the things that has been popping up is how easy people whine anymore.  They act so helpless.  It is almost as they expect someone to fly over and sprinkle fairy dust on them and all will be well.

There is some turmoil in the local schools over money cuts and programs.  Again lots of griping but few willing to bite the bullet and deal with the issues.

Geography is another trouble spot.  So many ask where is it.  Rather then doing some looking, they whine expecting me to tell.  Well the door is well marked: MEN.  Then they ask, where is it?  I slowly boil up into an aggravating chuckle and……. guffaw.

History is the other pet peeve.  It’s like the schools want to avoid teaching some history for it will upset their agenda.  The world according to, GARP.  So many do not know to get a book out and look up information or they do not want to.

Yet here on the internet is one of the fastest tools for looking up info. 

Now the circle, what are the schools missing?  By all test scores and standards that have been set forth, all the government programs have been failures.  Graduation rates are lower, students are less educated.  Oh there are exceptions but overall.  So when will people admit that big government in schools is a failure?

Look at how successful schools were in the early 20th century.  These little schools produced the people that invented the phone, light bulbs and even the computer. 

So when I hear whining I wonder who failed?

Such is life, there are foibles and successes.

So often the focus is on the failures and the successes are just there.

Wonder if there would of ever been an apple if Steve Jobs would have been a whiner…….?  His mother chose to not have an abortion and gave him up for adoption.

I Say So….. So It Shall Be

 

Kind of a cute cartoon.  This was on the First page of the calendar for January.  The year is a collection of Dennis blurbs of wisdom.  The saying strikes one as being cute but look beyond it being cute.

In arrogance so many think that if they vote for something it will be.  Listen to the politician's as they are on the stump.  How arrogant they have become and how unattached they are from the general populace.

It is the republicans campaigning and they are basically saying the same thing that Dennis is.  I will vote for this and it will happen.  That is the mantra that Obama used to get elected president.

All kinds of promises are made and almost none are kept.  Wonder if there is such a thing for malpractice for politicians.  About the only recourse is election time yet we vote for the same old bunch of cronies expecting different results.

There is a time when the circus of politics becomes a cartoon.  Only problem is their cartoons are not cute nor benign like the sayings of Dennis are.

The weekend is here.  Time to recreate and get ready for another moment in time.  The days and weeks on the calendar slide along.  The days are growing longer and the chill is settled in.  Soon the warmth of the sun will chase the frost out.

Dying

 

Went to a memorial service for a friend this week.  He was a Vietnam Veteran and was interred at the National Military cemetery.  I have a relative here plus some friends, so I went early to visit them for a moment for I knew afterwards would not be good.

As I walked among the grounds lots of things flooded the mind.  Here were people that served the country to be put in harms way.  Freedom is the creed that they fought for.  I ask myself, freedom from what, to do what, how to be or what is freedom.

Freedom caries a multitude of meaning to people.

There were a jumble of thoughts for me that afternoon and after the first of the year I want to explore them and share some of my thoughts.
